Definition: A process for identifying the rules and commitments we live by that are under our awareness.
Explanation: we usually try to change behaviors and use our will power. That is why NYE resolutions don’t last. This process guides us to identify our hidden commitments.
Example: To lose weight, intervening at the behavior level looks like a diet, or restrictions to eating. The immunity to change process would have you explore the emotional drivers under your awareness. The remedy is small experiments + time.
How to Use This Tool: Identify a goal. List what you are doing/not doing to thwart that goal. Imagine yourself doing to opposite of those behaviors. Notice what fear comes up when you imagine doing the opposite. Develop small experiments to gradually challenge the assumptions driven by your hidden commitments.
