Definition: The Mobius Model is a visual metaphor showing how dialogue allows us to exchange meaning, find common ground and set in motion, a process for continuous well-being.
Explanation: Like a Mobius strip, the model has one continuous surface, emphasizing the inseparability of speaking and listening. Our differences can be addressed through understanding each other. In a Mobius conversation, we’re on the same side.
Example: A leader who listens until the speaker declares they feel understood, will open the speaker up to understanding them too. From that place, new possibilities (that we both want) can surface.
How to Use This Tool: Follow the process clockwise. The right half (first three pie pieces) have a goal of gaining shared commitment to an outcome. The second half (last three pie pieces) are a process for taking action, getting clear about accountability to outcomes. The last piece of pie is a measurement of the work so far, and the initiation of a next phase of the process – gaining shared commitment to a new set of outcomes.
